Living & Dining Spaces
The living room and dining room are often the social centres of the home. In today’s modern and hectic family life, these are the rooms that carry the burden of being the gathering rooms of the home, the rooms where we entertain family and guests alike and the rooms where we relax and unwind after a long day. These are some major demands for a single room to fulfil and I aim to create living and dining rooms that satisfy all the above requirements.
The Brief: My client purchased a one bedroom investment property near the Oval cricket stadium in Central London and wanted a complete conversion of the flat into a two-bedroom flat. The flat was in a dismal state and required a complete gutting and refurbishment. My client wanted a luxury spec fully furnished and styled apartment within a 3 month span.

The Brief: The clients are a young family with a small child who asked me to design a colourful yet serene open plan space in their newly acquired home. They were clear that they wanted a contemporary space that was cosy, not clinical, without overfilling the room with too much furniture. The flat has lovely balconies with river views and they wanted to enjoy their living space daily.

The Brief: My clients enjoy Indian interiors and wanted an entertainment space that was classic yet contemporary but decidedly Indian in it's overall aesthetic. In order to make full use of the space we used bespoke joinery to build in some textured storage and display units on the two sides of the chimney breast. Symmetry can be your best friend and this allowed us to mount their statement art on the wall in between for maximum effect.

The Brief: My clients are a musical family - they come from a long lineage of musicians, every member plays an instrument and their child plays a variety of instruments. They wanted a dedicated room that would serve as a place to practice and enjoy music as a family and and serve as an occasional guest room for elders who may not be able to go up and down stairs. The brief included: 1. My client has her grandmother's Veena and we wanted this to be the focal point of the room 2. Incorporating a variety of other musical instruments that are played by the family 3. A sofa bed allowing for a guest to stay over 4. An entertainment room for family and guests alike 5. A fireplace

My clients had already renovated their home a while ago when they got in touch. They had a lovely blank canvas open plan living and dining area, as well as an entrance hallway that they wanted to turn into welcoming spaces to live and socialize in.

When my lovely client initially contacted me the conversation went something like this: "We are planning to purchase a home that we have fallen in love with but it needs a lot of work. It has older features such as fireplaces and wooden beams that seem to lend an 'old feel' to the house. Before this, we have never contemplated owning a home with these kinds of traditional features and I am petrified that we will be stuck with rooms we don't enjoy. Can you help us create some cosy and welcoming living spaces that we love?"

The Brief: To transform the room into a welcoming living room for the young family and their guests, using the existing sofa and chairs. The client enjoys quirky yet classy decor and is not keen on bright colours. This room is a great example of why figuring out the correct furniture layout is critically important to the flow of a room. The client already owned this sofa and matching armchairs when we started work. The two chairs were crammed in the window alcove and the sofa was in the same position it is in now. This arrangement felt disjointed, the chairs were too far away to contribute to a conversational unit with the sofa and the whole room felt very grey.

The Brief: To transform a beautiful formal lounge space from a barely used room into a frequently used room by friends and family. My clients had a beautiful formal living space in their home that they hardly ever used. The room had dark wallpaper throughout (inherited from the former owners)that made the room feel gloomy and unwelcoming, despite having gorgeous views of the garden beyond.

I had already designed my client's front living room last year and they then asked me back to design their family living and dining space as well. The brief for this particular room was to create a cosy yet sophisticated family room that incorporated a TV watching area, dining area and a dedicated bar unit that could be enjoyed by the entire family and also serve as a welcoming entertainment space.

My client's brief was to create a cosy and colourful family room and adjoining kitchen that would be the hub of their home and allow them to entertain in style.

This project is a testament to the fact that you do not need a large space to achieve gorgeous interiors. Taking the time to plan and design a space that is mindful of scale and proportion, style space with art and accessories, and not being scared to try something new are the essential ingredients to creating impactful interiors
