Designer's notes
The Brief: My client wanted to transform her large open plan space into a cohesive room that catered to all their needs including a TV area, a reading corner and a dining space that overlooked their stunning back garden. At the same time, my client was clear that she enjoyed a lot of open space and did not want to overcrowd the room but rather furnish it in a way that allowed her to enjoy each corner of the large room. She also wanted the following: 1) A contemporary space with lots of colour, with blues and corals being her favourite. 2) She had three concrete look stools that her now adult sons had created when they were in school and she wanted to incorporate them into the decor of the room. 3) She has two lovely vintage Indian paintings depicting dawn and dusk that belonged to her mother and she wanted to use them in the room as well. We decided to layout the room in a way that we have a comfortable TV viewing area in the front, a colourful chaise longue and custom bookcase making a comfortable reading zone in one corner and an indoor plant area that provides a great gazing spot on the opposite corner. The back of the room houses a large dining table that overlooks the mature garden.
